Dr Patrick Crushell was commissioned by AOS Planning to assess the abundance and distribution of wintering wader and wildfowl birds in the study area of two proposed substations (at Ballyragget Co Kilkenny and South East of Portlaoise, Co Laois) and an interconnecting 110 kV powerline (23km straight line).

EirGrid Submits Planning Application for Meath-Tyrone 400kV Interconnection Development

December 18, 2009: EirGrid submitted a planning application to An Bord
Plean�la under the Strategic Infrastructure Act for the Meath � Tyrone 400kV Interconnection
Development, which will facilitate cross-border sharing of electricity and ensure the long-term
secure supply of electricity for the North East.

Meath-Tyrone 400kV Interconnection Development Tower Outline Evaluation and Selection Report

EirGrid and NIE have commissioned ESBI, SAE Power Lines, and AECOM (formally know as Faber
Maunsell) to perform various studies on a number of 400kV tower designs to determine which design is
technically and aesthetically suitable to employ on the new Meath-Tyrone 400kV Interconnection
Development.

THE REPORT AND THE CONSULTANT: The contract for producing the Technical
Report on the use of extra high voltage (EHV) cables in the island networks was
awarded to Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) following an open
tendering process.

TEPCO has carried out the following studies in order to evaluate the effect of cable
installations on the NIE/EirGrid network:
Part 1: Evaluation of the potential impact on the all-island transmission system of significant
lengths of EHV underground cable, either individually or in aggregate
Part 2: Feasibility study on the 400 kV Woodland � Kingscourt � Turleenan line as AC EHV
underground cables for the entire length
Part 3: Feasibility study of the 400 kV Woodland � Kingscourt � Turleenan line as mixed OHL /
underground cable
