Grid Development

As part of Shaping Our Offshore Energy Future, EirGrid plans to develop offshore electricity substations and associated undersea electricity cables. This new infrastructure will bring the power generated by offshore windfarms into our national electricity grid.

EirGrid follows a six-step approach when they develop and implement solutions to any identified transmission network problem. The process and timescale of the East Meath to North Dublin Grid Upgrade project (hereafter referred to as the Proposed Project) is shown in Figure A1-1 below. The Proposed Project is currently at Step 4 – Where exactly should we build? To help identify the best location for the project, Step 4 has been divided into two sub-steps: Step 4A and Step 4B. Step 4A was completed in March 2023 and further details are on the project website.

CleanerGrid competition terms and Cconditions, adjudication

CleanerGrid is a competition for third level students to use
data from EirGrid’s Smart Grid Dashboard and/or from the
Single Electricity Market Operator (SEMO) website to create
a digital prototype of a website, application or dashboard
that will encourage citizens to be more mindful of their
energy use at times of peak demand and encourage them to
flexibly adapt their electricity use. Once you submit your
application form you’ll then receive all the information you
need to get your project started.
