In 2023-24, EirGrid made significant progress across a number of areas to play our part in meeting Ireland’s targets to tackle climate change. Whilst recognising our world-leading achievements on integrating renewable energy onto the electricity grid, there remains work to be done and challenges to overcome in order to achieve the Government’s ambitious decarbonisation targets.

The grid requires unprecedented change in the lead up to
2030.The main objective of the Shaping Our Electricity
Future Roadmap Version 1.1 Plain English Summary is to
outline how we can make the grid ready so that 80% of
Ireland’s and Northern Ireland’s electricity can come from
renewable sources, like the wind and sun, by 2030.
